San Diego Workforce Partnership Paid Mentorships!
Are you 16-24 and interested in a career in the public sector? Then this is the perfect opportunity for you to gain valuable experience and make new connections to further your career path. These opportunities are for low to moderate income individuals who live in the City of San Diego. There are two types of mentorship opportunities available:
Public Service Mentorships
For participants with education and experience in a relevant professional field (i.e., engineering, law, library science, biology, recreation). These mentees will be paid $17.50 an hour for 410 hours (400 hours mentorship, 10 hours pre-training), with the exact schedule to be determined by the mentor and mentee after matching takes place.
Work Readiness Mentorships
For participants with unrelated education and experience. These mentees will be paid $15 an hour and serve 205 hours (175 hours mentorship, 30 hours pre-training), with the exact schedule determined by the mentor and mentee after matching takes place.

- Entry Level Career Opportunities Now Open!
Emergency Dispatcher I: $39,665.60 - $47,798.40 annually. Application has no closing date.
All Dispatcher I positions, under general supervision, receive incoming telephone calls and evaluate requests for Police services, Fire-Rescue services, Environmental Services and Transportation and Storm Water services.
Lifeguard I: $17.32 - $20.80 hourly. Applications close February 7th, 2022.
Bay and Ocean Lifeguard positions guard swimmers at public beaches and bays, perform rescues, administer first aid, warn swimmers of dangerous water conditions, enforce aquatic beach regulations and ordinances, clean and maintain lifeguard equipment, operate rescue boats, drive emergency vehicles such as pickup trucks and 2 and 4-wheel drive vehicles, give information to the public, and maintain records and write reports; and perform other duties as assigned.
Pool Guard I: $14.65 - $16.03 hourly. Application has no closing date.
Pool Guard I positions oversee the safety of pool patrons by monitoring the pool and deck areas to prevent accidents; explain and enforce facility regulations, policies and procedures; rescue swimmers in distress or in danger of drowning; administer first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as needed; receive fees from patrons; assist patrons in aquatic class and activity registration; maintain records and prepare reports; and perform other duties as assigned.
Recreation Aide: $14.56 hourly. Application has no closing date.
Recreation Aide positions are assigned to work at various City of San Diego recreation centers, teen centers and after school programs; assist with games, crafts, sports, dance and aquatic activities; supervise locker areas; provide information to the public; register participants in classes; perform cashier duties; distribute equipment and games; make simple repairs to equipment and facilities; perform general maintenance of facilities and grounds; assist with/participate in special events; and perform other duties as assigned.
